Optimizing Procurement through Historical Sales Data Analysis
This project focuses on optimizing procurement and inventory strategies for a building material distributor with over 20 years of history in Canada. Over the decades, the company has accumulated a vast amount of sales and inventory data, stored in various formats and often containing inconsistent typing styles. This historical data, due to its diverse formats and inconsistencies, has posed significant challenges to the company's ability to derive actionable insights for procurement and inventory management. The project involves cleaning and standardizing the 20 years of both sales and inventory data. By correcting inconsistencies and removing duplicates, the system uncovers important seasonal trends in both sales performance and inventory levels, enabling more effective and optimized procurement decisions. Additionally, we developed logic to automatically consolidate data from PDF or Excel files with different formats, ensuring that every time the client receives an updated product sheet from their suppliers, the system captures and records the data into a standardized format. These insights help ensure better stock management, reduce overstock and stockouts, and improve seasonal advertising strategies, ensuring that marketing efforts align with customer demand patterns.
